Charles Darwin![]() ![]() ![]() | What is Natural Selection?Charles Darwin introduced Natural Selection in the 1850's. According to Darwin Natural selection is "The process in nature by which only the organisms best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated." For Example:Look at the photos to your left. If the lizard is going to eat any of the beetles he will most likely go for the darker ones. Why? Because they don't blend in with their surroundings as well as the others. As a result the darker bettles become exstinct. If all you have left are lighter beetles then you will only be able to produce lighter beetles. Thus the beetles have adapted to their enviroment through the process of Natrual Selection. |
How long can you survive?

The theory of evolution relate to the characteristic of scientific theory because both use the same process to prove their theories. This process includes creating scientific theories through hypothesis that have been formed through the scientific method, then gathering evidence to test the theory. They seek to supply strong evidence for but not absolute proof of the truth of the conclusion, and they aim for predictive and explanatory force.
